H.E. Dr. Adel Ahmad Al-Sharkas
Chairman of the Board of Directors - Governor of the Central Bank of Jordan

 

His Excellency Dr. Adel Al Sharkas was appointed as the governor of the Central Bank of Jordan since the 10th of January 2022. Formerly His Excellency served as Deputy Governor at the CBJ for the period 2012 – 2021. His Excellency the Governor has had a long career in the CBJ since 1991, where he held several positions, leading to the Director of the Research Department in 2011, before that Assistant to the Director of the Research Department in 2010, and Head of the Monetary Affairs Division in 2008, also he represented Jordan and the CBJ in many regional and international conferences. His Excellency has a long teaching experience in many international and local universities, as he was a lecturer at the University of New Orleans, an Assistant Professor at Alfred University in the United States of America, and as a Part Time Associated Professor at the University of Jordan, the Hashemite University, the Institute of Banking Studies and New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) Amman.

 

His Excellency received a bachelor’s degree in applied statistics from Yarmouk University in 1988, then a master’s degree in economics from the same university in 1990, and in 2002 he received his PhD in financial economics from the University of New Orleans in the United States of America,. His Excellency has many published papers in international refereed journals, as his research interests lie in monetary and fiscal policy, and he has received many awards, including the award of Who's Who Among U.S. Teachers for the years 2004, 2005 and 2006, and the McGraw-Hill Distinguished Paper in Finance Award for his paper titled " The Impact of Mergers and Acquisitions on the Efficiency of the U.S. Banking Industry" that was submitted to the 2006 Southwestern Finance Association Conference.
