Mr. Mu’taz Ibrahim Barbour assumed the position of the Director General of Jordan Deposit Insurance Corporation (JODIC) on June 6th , 2016. Prior to that, Mr. Barbour has an extensive experience in the banking industry gained through his work in the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) where he held several positions, and the most recently one was an Advisor at the Governor’s office during the period 2014-2016. In 2008, he was appointed as the Executive Manager of the International and Foreign Operations Department and held this position till the year 2014. Since 1976, he worked in and supervised various divisions at the CBJ: Letter of Credits & Collection, Foreign Accounts, Correspondent Banks, Bilateral and Trade Agreements, and the Foreign Investments, where he held the position of Portfolio Manager.

During his tenure in the CBJ, Mr. Barbour served on various specialized committees such as the Human Resources Committee, the Investment Committee, Open Market and Public Debt Committee, and the Credit Committee, He is an expert and lecturer in many specialized subjects mainly in investments, foreign exchange, and international trade and finance. He also participated in several conferences, seminars and training courses held by international financial institutions, such as the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and the Central Banks.

Mr. Barbour represented the Central Bank of Jordan in the committees that have completed the issuance of the Eurobonds in 2014 and 2016. He also held several positions in different capacities: Member of the Board of Directors of Jordan Loan Guarantee Corporation, Jordan Mortgage Refinance Company, and Vice Chairman of Jordan Forex Association.

At the regional level, he represented JODIC through chairing the Middle East and North Africa Regional Committee (MENA) of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) for the period 2016-2018.

He is also a member of the Member Relations Council Committee (MRC) of the IADI. Previously, Mr. Barbour was a member of the Executive Committee/ Treasurer of Interarab Cambist Association/ Beirut during the period 2005- 2015. In addition to that, he was Jordan Representative in the Administrative Committee of Interarab Cambist Association during the period 1994-2005. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, and a diploma in Banking Studies
